InkWell launched its two weekly writing sessions in August last year, and since then we have held 11 amazing sessions at Oikos Café on Erdington High Street.


We have welcomed some wonderful people who have produced some fantastic writing. We write in short bursts sometimes as little as three minutes. There is no time to stop and plan what you are going to write, no time to worry about spelling mistakes. The writing comes from your heart.


The writing prompts often spark memories that have long been forgotten. Writers can share what they have written if they want to. Then we have a comfortable chat. There can be shared memories that make us smile, or help us realise that we are not alone in dealing with things.


Here is one writer’s response to the three minute prompt ‘a hill I once knew’.


The hill I walked with my mom was a long one, slow and pervasive, dragging me down. Mom’s fear of people left us alone. If people appeared in the distance - people who we may have to speak to – we crossed the road or turned a corner to climb our hill in silence.

People became my fear too, to be avoided. Me – silent.
